Researchers from the University of Michigan, the University of New Mexico, and IIT Delhi audited 281 free Android VPN apps. 61 transmitted data without encryption. 29 leaked traffic outside the encrypted tunnel. 76 sent device identifiers to third parties. 107 misused encryption practices.
