A developer reproduced LeWorldModel, a Joint-Embedding Predictive Architecture, from scratch and trained it on Super Mario Bros. The model predicted five-step futures better than baselines and moved Mario within five pixels of nearby goals. However, Mario could not jump over obstacles or navigate toward distant goals, revealing prediction does not equal progress.
