ECB selects 36 firms for digital euro pilot

The European Central Bank selected 36 payment providers, including Deutsche Bank, Revolut, and Stripe, for a 12-month digital euro pilot starting in the second half of 2027. The pilot will test a beta version for online, offline, in-store, and e-commerce payments using ECB and central bank staff as users. Potential issuance is targeted for 2029, pending legislation and Governing Council approval.
