AV2 codec specs released, promises 32% smaller files

The Alliance for Open Media released definitive AV2 codec specifications, marking a key milestone for the successor to AV1. AV2 promises up to 32% smaller file sizes than AV1, with gains of 28.6% and 32.6% reported in separate metrics. Playback is roughly five times more complex than AV1, and the dav2d software decoder is in development.
