NASA abandons Swift telescope rescue mission

NASA's rescue attempt for the Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory failed after Katalyst Space Technologies' LINK spacecraft, launched July 3 on a Pegasus XL rocket, suffered attitude control problems. Swift will likely burn up in Earth's atmosphere within months, ending its gamma-ray burst detection role.
