Microsoft's Windows Global Device Identifier (GDID) helped the FBI link 19-year-old Peter Stokes, a dual US-Estonian citizen, to the Scattered Spider hacking group. The GDID connected his Windows machine to an ngrok account and VPN service, even while he used a VPN. Stokes faces federal charges for conspiracy, computer intrusion, and fraud.
