Cars Share Data With Tech Firms, Study Finds

Northeastern University and Consumer Reports tested 21 late-model vehicles from 17 automakers and 30 companion apps. Nineteen cars sent traffic to third parties including Google, Meta and Adobe; seven apps leaked VINs, emails, phone numbers and precise location. Pairing an app to a car roughly doubled ad and tracking exposure. Most automakers blamed others or consumers; only Honda removed location data.
