Apple launched Apple Pay in India on Tuesday with Axis Bank as its first banking partner, supporting Visa and Mastercard credit cards but not RuPay. HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and SBI Card are absent as fee talks continue, with Apple seeking about 20 basis points per transaction. The service competes with UPI, which handles roughly 84 percent of India's digital transaction volume.
