BeOS's Be File System (BFS) indexed files instantly via attributes and B+ trees, avoiding background daemons. Modern OSes use resource-heavy daemons to tokenize unstructured internet files. Be Inc. liquidated in 2001; Haiku continues BeOS's legacy.
