Encryption in the 1790s

Thomas Jefferson described a 36-disk encryption device in the 1790s, though he likely did not invent it. The US Military later adapted Etienne Bazeries' 20-disk cylinder as the M-94, used through 1942. Modern analysis rates the cipher as excellent against unknown wheels and order.
