AstroForge Puts AI in Command of Spacecraft

AstroForge is developing Solo, a transformer-based AI control stack, to autonomously operate its spacecraft. The company plans to fly its first autonomous mission in 2027 on a Stock Space rocket, backed by NASA. This follows two prototype failures, including the 2025 Odin mission, which lost communication. Solo will first fly in shadow mode on DeepSpace-2, launching alongside Intuitive Machines' third moon mission by the end of 2026.
