New Attack Bypasses 1,024-Bit RSA Encryption

Researchers at UC San Diego and Inria Nancy forged RSA signatures without factoring, using 1,380 CPU core-years over five months. The attack breaks 1,024-bit RSA and threatens 2,048-bit and 4,096-bit keys, though it fails against PKCS#1 v1.5 or PSS padding. NIST plans to deprecate RSA by 2030.
