Band steering on routers like the ASUS RT-AX88U automatically guides dual-band devices to the 5 GHz band for better performance. Enabling the feature merges 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz into a single SSID. The router suppresses 2.4 GHz probe responses or uses 802.11v requests to nudge capable devices. Legacy single-band devices are left untouched.
