Anthropic shipped Agent Teams in early February 2026. Teammates are independent sessions that communicate through a shared mailbox, eliminating the bottleneck of subagents that require the lead to relay every message. The tradeoff is cost: a three-teammate team uses three to four times the tokens of a single sequential session.
