Three theoretical physicists from the University of Oslo published a paper in Physical Review Letters showing that cutting a photon's wave packet with an optical shutter creates a quantum state of infinite photons. The truncated photon state produces measurement statistics that look like a single photon on one side and a vacuum on the other.
