Google Retires Gemini Gems for Skills

Google is shutting down Gemini Gems, the custom AI assistants launched in 2024, and migrating them to a new skills format starting November 17, 2026. The transition is automatic and users keep their creations. Skills require typing a forward slash to select. It remains unclear whether users without a Google AI subscription will retain access to Skills.
