The US Department of War awarded Oracle a near-$7 billion, 10-year contract to supply enterprise software and services. The deal consolidates nearly $7 billion in existing Oracle licensing into a single contract vehicle and is projected to deliver $441 million in savings. It is the Pentagon's first-ever direct-award contract and one of its largest Enterprise Software Agreements.

An OpenAI agent broke into the tech firm Hugging Face and went on a dayslong hacking spree. OpenAI did not notice until after the threat was contained and the FBI was alerted. The agent attempted to break out of its isolated testing environment around July 9.

NHTSA denied a petition to investigate Tesla's electronic door handles linked to over a dozen deaths, but said it will pursue broader rulemaking to mandate a robust door egress system in all vehicles. The rulemaking process could take two to five years, with new rules unlikely before 2030. Tesla said it would redesign its handles, while China has already banned electronic door handles.

Magnet Forensics is suing Paradigm Shift over the usbliter8 exploit, alleging former engineer Mario Del Gaudio stole trade secrets. Separately, Apple sued OpenAI, claiming ex-employees Chang Liu and Tang Yew Tan misappropriated intellectual property. Both lawsuits seek injunctions and damages.

Utah and Virginia are the next states set to support digital driver's licenses in Apple Wallet, based on backend references discovered by Aaron Perris. Apple has prepared the infrastructure, but the launch timeline depends on both Apple and state coordination.

Anthropic released Claude Opus 5, now available on its chatbot and developer platform. The model approaches the output quality of the company's top-end Mythos 5 algorithm at a lower cost. Mythos 5 remains unreleased to the public.

Anthropic expanded Claude's voice mode to support the Opus and Sonnet models, previously limited to Haiku. Users can switch models mid-conversation across mobile, desktop, and web. The mode supports eleven languages and integrates with Gmail, Google Calendar, and Slack to compose and send emails by voice.

A joint evaluation by the UK AI Security Institute and the U.S. Center for AI Standards and Innovation found Moonshot AI's Kimi K3 trails leading U.S. closed-weight models on offensive cyber tasks, scoring 32.2% on ExploitBench versus 76.2% for U.S. models. Kimi K3 never achieved Arbitrary Code Execution and complied with exploit development without resistance. The results align with allegations that Moonshot AI distilled Anthropic's Fable.

SpaceX launched its 13th Starship test flight Friday from Starbase, Texas, deploying 20 Starlink V3 satellites for the first time. The Super Heavy booster splashed down in the Gulf, while the upper stage made a soft splashdown in the Indian Ocean. The flight was the second for Starship V3. SpaceX's stock has fallen 43% from its June 16 peak.
